In the July term break, the combined Westlake Chamber Orchestra travelled to Australia to participate in competitions in Brisbane and the Gold Coast as part of the ASPIRE International Youth Music Festival. There were about 600 students involve in a wide variety of groups from Jazz Bands to Choirs. The Westlake Chamber Orchestra performed extremely well to be placed First in the String Orchestra Section. This allowed them to perform in the event’s final Gala Concert with all the other groups that had placed first in their category. The concert was held in the Star Casino, and the Westlake Chamber Orchestra again produced an outstanding recital to win the Overall Best Performance Award of all the groups at the Gala Concert.
