Young computer coder wins second place

Year 10 STEAM student Ella Hutcheson used Minecraft to create a moving windmill, which won second place in the nation-wide INTERFACE Make a Machine competition. Ella’s windmill took home the Silver Award in the Secondary (Years 9+) Category. She started working on her idea, which took around six hours to create, during her robotics class last year and completed the task at home. “The most difficult thing was coding the blades of the windmill to turn,” she says. “I was really surprised and pleased to come second.” Ella says she enjoys the idea of inventing, but isn’t sure what’s next – aside from another great year as part of her STEAM programme. Well done Ella.
