Basketball wins Third Place in New Zealand Championships

The Westlake Girls High School Premier Basketball team competed at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Basketball Championships held in Palmerston North in early October. They did very well, winning the Bronze Medal for 3^rd in New Zealand. The team won all their pool games reasonably comfortably (against Melville High School, Rangitoto College, Hillcrest High School, Christchurch Girls High School and Sacred Heart). They then had to play Mt Albert Grammar School in the Quarter Finals and it was an exciting game which Westlake won by one point. This put the team into the Semifinals where they suffered their first loss of the tournament to Hutt Valley High School. This meant they played off for 3^{rd and} 4^th, beating Queen Margaret College to take 3^rd Place. Emme Shearer (Year 12) was named in the Championship Tournament Team.
