The New Zealand Secondary Schools Big Sing Finale was held in Dunedin in late August. To get to the Finale, each choir had to qualify from their Regional Choral Competition, and 24 choirs from across New Zealand reach the standard for the Finale. In the Finale, only five Gold Medals were Awarded to the very top choirs. Two Westlake Girls choirs, Choralation and Cantare, both qualified to go to the Finale which is a fantastic achievement in itself. Both choirs gave outstanding performances at the finale and were both winners of a Gold medal. To have two choirs form one school reach this standard of performance is outstanding.
As well, Wei Qi Lim (Year 13) was awarded the trophy for winning the New Zealand Choral Federation Choral Composition Award. Her composition was performed at the big Finale. Xiaole Zhang (Year 13) was runner up for this Award.
