Westlake Girls High School is the National Secondary Schools Basketball Champion for the second year in a row. The outstanding team led by Head Coach, Bronwen Davidson and Assistant Coach, Nela Fotu, has developed an admirable programme of athleticism, professionalism, and team culture, which attracts basketballers from around the North Shore.
The competitive pathway begins in Year 9 with all Juniors aspiring to secure a place in the Junior A team to compete in the Zone 1 Junior Premiership Tournament in September.
For those interested in a more social pace, the North Harbour Under 17 and Under 19 grades offer students the chance to relax with friends and train when they choose.
Junior Competition for Year 9 and 10’s: 4pm – 6pm on a Wednesday or Thursdays in Term 2 and Term 3 (Starts 8-9 May)
Under 17 and Under 19: 4pm – 8pm Thursday or Friday night starts 9-10 May)
Open Grade: 5pm – 8pm on Thursday nights (Starts 9 May)
And the Premier team: 6pm – 8pm on Friday nights in a home and away format (Starts 10 May)
Juniors – Wednesday 7 & 14 February,
Seniors – Saturday 10 & 17 with a strong focus on the Junior Teams and the Senior 3-on-3 teams. Trials will take place at Westlake Boys High School.

Westlake Girls competitive in the basketball off-shoot – 3 on 3. Next year the Senior and Junior tournaments will be separated and held on a regional basis. The Senior competition will be the qualifying event for the 3 x 3 National Championship in Wellington from 13 – 14 April. And the Junior 3×3 regional tournament will be held in Term 4 from 16 – 18 November.
Basketball Development Sessions: Tuesdays from 7 May in Gym 3 From 4.30pm – 6pm
The focus is on Beginner/Intermediate level workouts that will help improve student:

Finishing
Shooting
Passing
Defense
Decision Making
Senior students are also encouraged to experience the joy of coaching a junior team; however, we also welcome enthusiastic parents who are interested in coaching or managing their daughter’s team. The regular season for all teams begins in early May, culminating in early August for the local competition and then in early October for the Premier team.
