Westlake Girls is committed to developing Rugby as a targeted sport. Over the past couple of years, the Premier team has featured in the final of the North Harbour competition and then impressed in the local and national Rugby 7’s competitions.

Premier Rugby 12’s (Y17) – Year 11-13:
The Premier team competes in the North Harbour Secondary Schools Girls Y17 12 a side rugby grade which is played in Term 2 with the finals in Term 3. Conditioning is essential for rugby players and therefore an off strength & conditioning programme has been introduced with preseason training for ALL rugby teams beginning on Monday 25 March. These trainings will run through the April school holidays and will act as the foundation for trials which will be held during this time. The Premier team plays on Monday afternoons in Term 2 and the games are normally finished by 5pm. The team’s home ground is Westlake Boys,

Junior Rugby 10’s – Year 9-10:
Westlake Girls has 2 Junior rugby teams who play on Tuesdays after school in the North Harbour Secondary Schools Girls Y15 10 a side Girls competition in Terms 2 and 3 at various Harbour schools. The trials will be held during the mandatory pre-season training sessions which begin in the last week of March and run through the April school holidays.

2024 TRIALS:

Trials for all teams will be determined at pre-season training sessions starting w/c 25 March

FEES:

Premier – $150
Juniors – $50
*Please note that for tournaments, there are extra charges)

UNIFORM:

Students will be issued a rugby jersey, playing shorts as well as socks. Each player needs to wear appropriate playing boots and have their own mouthguard,

2024 RUGBY 7’S:

This year the school would like to enter an Open and Under 15 Sevens team into the secondary school events. The Open Sevens Team trial is only for experienced rugby players who are confident tacklers. They will compete at the North Harbour qualifiers & Condor Sevens New Zealand Secondary Schools Championship in December.
The Under 15 team will take part in the Harbor Secondary School Tournament. Trials will take place in early September at either WGHS or WBHS.
