Student Engagement and Support Co-Ordinator

Westlake Girls High School is looking for a motivated and innovative team player, ideally with a background in youth work, support work, or social work. The right candidate should be skilled at engaging with students, parents, and school staff, and able to build positive connections with outside agencies.

This is a 12-month contract, term time only. Part-time 20 hours per week.

In this vital role, you will engage with families to identify and overcome barriers to regular school attendance.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with diverse populations, empathy and patience, particularly when working with families facing challenges. Strong collaboration and communication are essential skills for this role along with a tech-savvy mindset to adapt to digital communication platforms and tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Track attendance, identify issues and develop a support plan.
  • Gather attendance data for students attending less than 70%.
  • Investigate low attendance and implement a support plan for students by:
    • Meeting with students individually and/or with parents to identify and address issues, boost responsibility and motivation.
    • Coordinating with deans, counsellors, learning enhancement, and careers staff to gather information and provide relevant support, including pastoral care, social aspects of learning, and career focus for students over 16.
    • Conducting home visits if necessary.
    • Collaborating with outside agencies, including referrals and consultations with NAISS, and assisting with Northern Health School applications.
    • Monitoring the buzz list from reception staff to proactively address daily attendance information for students receiving intensive support.

Textbook Assistant

Join Our Team as Textbook Assistant

We are seeking someone to join our Library team in 2025 as textbook assistant. The role is 15 hours per week term-time only, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 9:15 am-2.45 pm, with some flexibility with start/finish times.

The textbook assistant is responsible for all the resources for the English, ESOL, and Social Sciences departments. The main task is managing textbooks. This includes duties like cataloguing, covering, issuing, returning, storing, collecting, and maintaining the collection. This role starts on 22 January (a staff-only day).

Strong computer skills are essential, as you will use Accessit and Kamar, email, Google Docs, and other programmes. The position requires you to liaise with teachers and students.

You must have excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable interacting with people of all backgrounds. Attention to detail and the ability to collaborate in a team and work independently are critical skills for this role.

Experience using Accessit would be a bonus, but we will provide full training to the successful applicant.

Sports Co-Ordinator

Westlake Girls High School has a proud sporting history and wishes to appoint a Sports Co-Ordinator to support and continue this tradition.

This is a permanent, full-time role, and will involve being part of the Sports Department team overseeing the school sporting programme. Applicants must have a sound understanding of secondary sport and appropriate sporting qualifications. They must be able to work effectively in a team environment. Experience in Excel, Word and Kamar is an advantage.

Various Important Info

Y9 and 10 Students finish early this Thursday.

On the afternoon of Thursday, 21 November, there will be a PPTA Paid Union Meeting for teachers. As a result, Year 9 and 10 students will finish at 12:30 pm, and no classes will run for them in the afternoon.

Students in Years 11, 12, and 13 sitting NCEA exams will not be affected. Exams will continue as scheduled.

If you wish your child to be supervised at school on that afternoon, please contact the school so that arrangements can be made.

Library : Open from 8:00-5:00. All students on study leave can study in the library including. Y9s. The library is a silent study zone from Tuesday, 5 Nov to Thursday, 29 Nov.
