Starting at Westlake Girls High School

Welcome to Westlake Girls’ High School. You will find lots of great information here in our Parents/Caregivers’ Guide and in our Practical Information section. Please note, the Guide is for 2024. The 2025 Parents’/Caregivers’ Guide will be available here in late November.

The following are the Term Dates for 2025:

Due to circumstances beyond our control, dates on our school calendar may sometimes change. We urge you to double-check with us before making decisions based on the dates listed here.

Term 1: Tuesday, 28 January to Friday, 11 April

(Monday, 27 January is Auckland Anniversary Day – school is closed)
(Thursday, 6 February is Waitangi Day school is closed)

(Friday, 18 April and Monday, 21 April are Good Friday and Easter Monday. Friday, 25 April is ANZAC Day. Easter and ANZAC Day fall in the Term One break).

Term 2: Monday, 28 April to Friday, 27 June
(Monday, 2 June is King’s Birthday – school is closed)
(Friday, 20 June is Matariki Celebration Day – school is closed)

Term 3: Monday, 14 July to Friday, 19 September

Term 4: Monday, 6 October to Friday, 5 December
(Monday, 27 October is Labour Day – school is closed).

Please note:

Friday, 7 February is student online learning from home day. (Students are NOT in school).

 

 

School buses will be running from late Jan/early Feb 2025, tying in with the start of the school year. If you drop your daughter at school by car, please use one of the surrounding streets as a drop-off point. Smales Farm does not allow parking for school drop-off/collection and issue infringement tickets. There are bike racks between B and C Blocks. Please ensure your daughter has a lock for her bike.

The school gates are locked from 3 – 3.30 pm each day for the safety of our students. You will not be able to enter the school grounds to collect your daughter.

On Tuesday, 28 January 2025, students new to Westlake Girls at Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 must go to the covered area in the quad outside the Event Centre at 9.00 am. They will be welcomed and taken to their 2025 form class.

All Year 10, 11, 12 and 13 students that attended Westlake Girls High School in 2024 are to go to their 2024 form rooms at 9.30am.

All students will be released at approximately 11.30am. School buses have not been requested to operate this day.

Year 13 student leaders must remain at school on Tuesday, 28 January until 3:00 pm.

Thursday, 30 January is a Timetable Day 4 and the first day of classes taught. Form time begins at 8.50 am.

A reminder as mentioned above, Thursday, 6 February is Waitangi Day and school is closed.  Friday, 7 February is Students’ Online Learning From Home Day (students are not in school).

All Year 9 students meet in the covered area in the quad outside the Events Centre at 9:00 am. They will be welcomed into the Events Centre and introduced to key staff. Students will then be divided into Form/House classes and taken to their form rooms.

An orientation programme will run for the day taken by the Year 13 student leaders. The Year 9 students will have activities to get them to know other class members, tour the school, attend an ICT session to log into the school network and have a library session. Year 9 students should bring their laptop to school on this day.

Students should be in correct uniform, including skirt or culottes, blouse, blazer (optional), and sandals or shoes/socks. Students will not need to bring their full range of stationery for their first day at high school. However, they should bring:

  • School bag
  • Refill paper
  • Pen
  • Laptop
  • A padlock (if you have hired a locker)
  • Lunch/morning tea
  • Water bottle

The canteen will be open for lunch purchases. Your daughter will not be permitted to leave the school grounds until the day finishes.

Various Important Info

Y9 and 10 Students finish early this Thursday.

On the afternoon of Thursday, 21 November, there will be a PPTA Paid Union Meeting for teachers. As a result, Year 9 and 10 students will finish at 12:30 pm, and no classes will run for them in the afternoon.

Students in Years 11, 12, and 13 sitting NCEA exams will not be affected. Exams will continue as scheduled.

If you wish your child to be supervised at school on that afternoon, please contact the school so that arrangements can be made.

Library : Open from 8:00-5:00. All students on study leave can study in the library including. Y9s. The library is a silent study zone from Tuesday, 5 Nov to Thursday, 29 Nov.
