Lacrosse is one of New Zealand’s fastest growing sports! The game is a fast, energetic, contact sport that originated in North America. The aerial ball and stick game has gained popularity at Westlake Girls since its introduction. The school has one team and currently trains weekly on Tuesdays, then competes against other schools that also enjoy the physically demanding sport on Thursdays after school in Terms 2 and 3.

2025 CALENDAR:

Premier Trial -Term 1 – Trial 1-Tuesday, 25 February, Trial 2-Tuesday, 4 March, Trial 3-Thursday, 6 March at WGHS Turf from 3.30 – 5.00pm.
Auckland Secondary Schools Competition – begins 8 May, 2025
Auckland Secondary Schools Championships – Avondale Show Grounds – Thursday, 14 August, 2025.
NZSS Lacrosse Girls Nationals – Auckland –  29 – 31 August, 2025

FEE:

Season Fee – $150
Equipment: Students will need to purchase their own stick, mouth guard and protective eyewear.

JUST PLAY – LACROSSE

Lacrosse is not a well-known sport so we offer it as a JUST PLAY sport which teaches students how to play it before trials in March. The ‘Have a Go’ module is four weeks long and led by the Premier Team players.
