Marching

The Westlake Marching Team was established in 2015 by Coach Jaen and Team Manager Moira to offer an alternative activity to the students of Westlake Girls. The team has since its beginning achieved greatly within the Under 16 competitive grade with our creative and entertaining Displays.

As one of only a few selected Under 16 grade teams, Westlake is invited to represent New Zealand in Queensland, Australia in July 2023.

Training starts in May of every year with training every Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5pm to 7:30pm. Competitions commence in October and end in March of the following year. The season offers two major traveling opportunities to major regions for the North Island, and National Championships.

Marching is an amateur sport that originated in New Zealand in the 1930’s and offers participants a strong sense of team spirit and self-discipline. It heightens powers of concentration and physical fitness, encourages good deportment, pride in grooming and personal achievement and offers musical enjoyment, life long friendships and opportunities of travel.
