Rugby is a targeted sport at Westlake Girls, and through the Cygnet programme, we are committed to developing the sport to a high standard. Winners of the 2024 Harbour Secondary Schools Championship, the school has three teams: Premier and 2 x Junior teams.

The Premier Team is made up of Year 10-13 students and competes strongly to represent the North Shore in the Blues qualifier for the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championship held in September. The team plays in a 12-a-side competition on Mondays after school but needs to quickly adjust to compete in the 15-a-side qualifier in August.

The two Junior teams compete on Tuesdays after school in the junior Harbour competition. This aims to develop the young students into strong players.

TRIALS

The trials for these teams will be held during the mandatory pre-season training sessions, which begin in the last week of March and typically run through the April school holidays, led by head coach Alex Matapo.

Session 1: Friday, 4 April
Session 2: Friday, 11 April
Session 3: Thursday, 17 April
Session 4: Friday, 26 April

FEES:

Premier – $150
Juniors – $50
*Please note that for tournaments, there are extra charges)

UNIFORM:

Students will be issued a rugby jersey, playing shorts as well as socks. Each player needs to wear appropriate playing boots and have their own mouthguard,
